KUALA LUMPUR: The reintroduction of the National Service Training Programme (PLKN 3.0) will only commence from 2025 onwards.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said it was impossible to hold the programme next year as it was not budgeted in the 2024 Budget.

He also said that the existing 13 Wataniah army camps throughout the country needed to be upgraded first.

"The mechanism of implementation will be decided after engagement with stakeholders and tabled to the Cabinet for approval.

"To do it in 2024 is not doable as it was not budgeted.

"Maybe it can be implemented on 2025," he said during the winding up speech of the ministry's 2024 Supply Bill (2024 Budget) committee level debate at Dewan Rakyat today.

Last month the government announced the comeback of PLKN pending approval by National Security Council (MKN). `

The third edition of the service will only be done for 45 days.
