KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon the Finance Ministry on Nov 30, to provide clarification regarding the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Property Development Management.

In the Auditor General's Report 2022, it was revealed that LADA Property Development Management had failed to collect land lease revenue for two projects, amounting to RM11.49 million. The two projects are the St. Regis Hotel development project for RM3.19 million since 2018, and the land lease for the Tok Senik Village project amounting to RM8.30 million since 2003.

PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the committee will inform from time to time for other proceedings, in relation to the 2022 Auditor General's Report. She said the PAC proceedings for issues in the report will be focusing on topics that are identified as having 3P elements; misconduct (in BM: penyelewengan), abuse of power (penyalahgunaan kuasa) and waste (pembaziran) and 1K element; negligence (kecuaian).

"We have arranged our schedule until year-end, until December for issues raised by the auditor's general," she said at a press conference held in the parliament building today. The press conference was held together with Auditor General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.

In another development, Mas Ermieyati said the committee was informed by the Auditor General that the government is planning to amend the Audit Act 1957 next year. "PAC is seeking the government to include the committee's role and responsibilities in this amendment."

She believed the matter could be materialised, with engagement sessions to better discuss the best for cooperation in future. "It is important for us to see the power and responsibility of the PAC to carry out its duties more robustly and effectively," she added.
