KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 Auditor General's Report found that a delay in completing two projects by Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) has adversely impacted the island's tourism activities.

The delayed projects are the construction of the Geopark Discovery Centre (GDC) and Kota Mahsuri Auditorium.

Auditor General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi said that GDC which was supposed to be completed in 2018 was only successfully completed in 2019 and was opened to tourists on Jan 5 the following year.

While the Kota Mahsuri Auditorium project, an extension project of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), was only completed in May 2022 compared to April 2017 as originally planned.

"Lada has played a role as a catalyst for the development of tourism in Langkawi through the implementation of development projects and private investment.

"However, the delay in the completion of several development projects saw tourists and residents of Langkawi being unable to benefit from such facilities sooner," she said.
