PASIR PUTEH: Three people from the district become the first flood victims in Kelantan when they were evacuated from their homes this morning.

The three comprised an adult and two teenagers from Kampung Pachakan here.

They were evacuated at about 6am after their homes were inundated by flood waters following non-stop heavy rains since Sunday.

Six firemen from the Tok Bali fire and rescue station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 6.16am.

Firemen took about an hour to rescue them and send them to a nearby relief centre.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday issued a severe level, continuous heavy rain warning for Kelantan and Terengganu until Wednesday (Nov 22).

MetMalaysia, in a statement stated that the areas affected are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan, while in Terengganu, the affected areas are Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Marang.

The department issued a warning of continuous rain (severe level) with indications that the amount of rain would exceed 60mm within six hours.

Meanwhile, continuous rains at alert level are also expected in several areas in Kelantan involving Jeli and Kuala Krai, as well as in Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang involving the Kuantan area during the same period.

The same weather conditions are also expected in Kedah in Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, Penang and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama and Manjung) from Nov 22 to 23.
