KUALA LUMPUR: The bill for the Children's Commission of Malaysia will be tabled during the current session of the Dewan Rakyat.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said added that the bill would be tabled at least for first reading during this session, which ends on Nov 30.

"We will have three days for the bill and we will see when we have the time (to table it)," she said.

Azalina was speaking to reporters in the lobby of Parliament after a walkabout session in conjunction with World Children's Day 2023.

The Pengerang member of parliament said she hoped that the bill could be tabled as soon as the Supply Bill 2024 is approved at committee level.

Prior to this, Azalina had said a specific act for the creation of the Children's Commission would be tabled to allow for an independent body to ensure the rights of children in the country are protected.

At present, a children's commissioner has been appointed under the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia.
