IPOH: Poultry farmers in Perak have been given three years to switch their current open cage system of rearing to an environmentally friendly closed house system.

State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun, said those who failed to do so within the stipulated period may face action under the Poultry Farming Enactment (Amendment) 2023 which was gazetted last July 20.

"Those who do not comply with the rules can be subject to a minimum compound of RM5,000 or a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years," he told a media conference here today (November 16).

He said to date, 203 out of 507 licensed poultry farms in the state have already switched to the closed coop system.

"The deadline for poultry farmers to switch to the closed coop system is December 3, 2025. So, there is ample time to do so," he added. – Bernama
