KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will attend the Eighth Extraordinary Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) tomorrow in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hosted by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Salman, the extraordinary summit was called for Islamic leaders to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression, cruelty and inhumanity in Palestine.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement today, said Anwar will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and senior government officials to attend the summit.

"The summit is a culmination of the prime minister's intense engagements with several OIC Leaders.

"The prime minister will address the summit highlighting, among others, Malaysia's firm position on the urgency to effectively and permanently end Israel's genocidal acts against the Palestinians in Gaza, where a crisis of humanity has unfolded, as well as the necessity for OIC Member States and the rest of the international community to address the plight and sufferings of the Palestinians.

"The summit expects to adopt a Final Communiqué," the statement read.

Other leaders expected to attend the summit included Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The summit, the statement said, will be preceded by two preparatory meetings - the OIC Ministerial Meeting on Nov 10 and the OIC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) on Nov 9.

It is learnt that Anwar and the Malaysian entourage will depart for Riyadh early tomorrow morning.

After attending the extraordinary summit, Anwar, alongside the Malaysian entourage, will depart for the United States (US) to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders' Week in San Francisco.

Anwar was previously reported as saying that he would raise the relentless attack on the Palestinians in Gaza on the world stage when leaders from the 21-member Apec forum, including the two largest economies, the US and China, convene between Nov 11 and 17.

It was also reported that Anwar was expected to meet US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of APEC, where the former is expected to raise the issue of the Israel-Hamas conflict during the meeting.
