KUALA LUMPUR: Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah, was honored with the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Asia Pacific Excellence Award in the "Inspirational Leader" category yesterday (November 8).

In a statement today (November 9), Angkasa stated that the award is given to individuals, cooperatives, ministries or departments that have made significant contributions and benefits to the growth and development of the cooperative movement in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the statement, in his speech, Abdul Fattah said the award symbolises the collective efforts and determination of all cooperative members in Malaysia to empower the cooperative movement both nationally and globally.

"This award motivates me to continue making a positive impact for the well-being of the people of Malaysia, especially cooperative members. It also represents a greater responsibility that drives me to provide the best services for the cooperative movement," he said.

He also extended his appreciation to the top leadership, management, staff, and all Angkasa members, as well as his family, for their continuous support and inspiration throughout his 10-year tenure as the president of Angkasa.

The award was presented by ICA-AP President Dr Chandrapal Singh Yadav to Abdul Fattah, who is also the Vice President of ICA-AP, during a dinner event organised by the Philippine Cooperative Affiliates.

At the same event, the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Limited from India received a similar award under the category 'Enterprising Cooperative'.

The ceremony was attended by 600 delegates from 27 countries, including 83 delegates from Malaysia, as part of the 16th ICA-AP Regional Assembly, which took place over five days starting from Monday (November 6). The event was also graced by ICA president Ariel Guarco and ICA-AP Regional Director, Balu Iyer.

The Malaysian delegation also participated in the opening ceremony of the 16th ICAAP Regional Assembly, the 11th Asia Pacific Cooperative Forum, and the ICA-AP Trade Exhibition, which took place over three days starting from Tuesday (November 7), all held in Manila. – BERNAMA
