PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not called in any witnesses as it is still conducting a forensic investigation on Aman Palestin's 2020 to 2022 financial and bank reports to investigate any misuse of donations received from the public.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they were unable to investigate the recent 2023 collections as the financial report would only be concluded after the financial year ends.

"My forensic officers are still looking into a lot of documentation especially regarding the 2020 to 2022 financial report.

"We are unable to investigate the recent collections because the report is still ongoing and we have to wait for the financial year to end," he told reporters after attending the Communication and Digital Ministry Integrity Day celebrations here, today.

Azam previously said during the forensic investigation process, no one will be called in for recording of statements.

Last month the New Straits Times reported that Azam said MACC had launched an investigation into Aman Palestin in connection with alleged irregularities within the NGO's fundraising activities for the Palestinian people.

Azam said the MACC had taken the proactive measure to investigate the case even when there was no official report as it was a matter of public interest involving public funds.

Aman Palestin told NST that it also pledged to extend its full cooperation to MACC.

Previously, Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin through a letter dated on Aug 24 had instructed the Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) not to permit the collection of funds by Aman Palestin in places of worship and relevant religious premises within the state.

He had expressed reservations about Aman Palestin's collection and distribution of funds, calling for more transparency on the matter.

Subsequently, the state religious authority suspended fund collections by Aman Palestin in Perlis effective Oct 12, pending the completion of a probe.
