MACHANG: Three Bangladeshi workers were killed when they were buried alive in a mishap at a construction site for a highway in Kampung Maka in Labok, near Pulai Chondong, today.

According to witness Anies Asiykin Ariffin, 29, she was just finished cooking lunch in the kitchen of her home about noon when she heard shouts coming from the nearby construction site.

She said she saw several workers running towards an excavator, the operator of which was pointing towards where the mishap had occurred.

"My house is only about 50m from the site and at first I thought nothing of it, until I was told by my in-law, Siti Rohani Setapa, that some workers were buried alive," she said.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

He said all the victims were aged in their 30s, adding that their bodies were sent to the Machang Hospital Forensics Unit for post-mortem examination.
