KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded RM40.51 billion in the export value of palm oil with an export quantity of 9.66 million metric tonnes from January to August this year.

In a parliamentary reply, the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry said that based on data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), India is the top importer of Malaysian palm oil with a total value of RM7.08 billion with an export quantity of 1.81 million metric tonnes from over the same period.

"China comes second at RM3.30 billion with the export quantity of 0.85 million metric tonnes.

"This is followed by the European Union (EU) with a total of RM3.10 billion and 0.71 million metric tonnes."

Datuk Azman Nasrudin (PN-Padang Serai) asked about the export volume of Malaysia's palm oil by country in terms of ringgit value and metric tonnes.

The ministry said other than India, China and the EU, the primary world markets for Malaysian palm oil exports are Turkiye, Kenya, Japan, Pakistan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, on the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the ministry said Malaysia and Indonesia as the world's primary palm oil producers, are actively engaging in discussions and negotiations with the EU's top leadership to clarify the negative economic implications of the regulations.

"We are assuring the EU that Malaysia is committed to sustainable development."
