KUALA LUMPUR: The Unity Ministry has launched the #CakapBaikBaik campaign 'to promote wisdom in daily conversations and encourage more civilised interactions in Malaysia'.

Its minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said this campaign aims to build a more civilised Malaysian society by emphasising the importance of ethics and moral values in interactions.

He also highlighted the need to consider the potential impact before sharing information or opinions on social media and in daily conversations.

Aaron said individuals should be responsible for spreading accurate information and verifying the authenticity of the sources.

"One of the key values in the #CakapBaikBaik campaign is to respect differences of opinion and perspective. Malaysia is known as a country rich in diverse cultures, religions and traditions.

"It is important to understand that every individual has different viewpoints. We can agree to disagree, but it should be done with respect and a high level of civilisation.

"This campaign emphasises that despite technological advancements, fundamental values like respect and etiquette in communication are essential aspects of ensuring that we have a civilised and harmonious society.

"While we may not always agree, we can agree to communicate in a respectful manner," he said in a statement today.

He mentioned that the campaign calls on Malaysians to be agents of change in their communities.

"Initiating meaningful conversations, providing support to others, and understanding the feelings of other individuals are some ways to take this step.

"We can build strong relationships and avoid unnecessary conflicts and disputes. Let us work together to build a better and more civilised Malaysian society," the statement reads.
