BANGI: A teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Pongsu Bagan Serai, Perak has walked away with RM1 million after being announced as the 92nd Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Premium Savings Certificate lucky draw winner.

Rosli Omar, 59, who is set to retire next year, said he did not expect to win, as he has been consistently saving with BSN since 2009, where purchasing the savings certificate automatically puts one in the lucky draw.

"I started saving through BSN's Premium Savings Certificate with deposits as low as RM200. Then I increased it to RM500. Perhaps it is the blessings from the people who have contributed money to me, like my children… so I decided to save it with BSN," he said after the launch of the financial literacy module by the Education Ministry and BSN for primary and secondary schools today.

When asked about his plans following his win, Rosli said he would use it for himself and his wife to perform Hajj and help cover expenses for his two children, who are currently pursuing higher education.

"Of course, I want to go for Hajj, as I have already performed the umrah in 2016. If I were to wait in the queue, it would take much longer. God willing, I can perform Hajj soon with my wife.

"If I go with Tabung Haji, it will cost around RM30,000. For two people, it is already RM60,000. To be on the safe side, it might take more than RM50,000 for one person.

"Alhamdulillah, Allah has paved the way to make it easier for me to go there. It is part of my plan," he said.

Rosli also mentioned that he chose to save with BSN's Premium Savings Certificate because he was interested in the attractive prizes offered in their lucky draws and the high dividends offered to savers.

"I was interested in seeing people win bungalows, luxury cars and cash. So, I felt this was an opportunity not to be missed for our savings purposes, especially with the high dividend rates," he said.

He emphasised the importance of having short and long-term financial plans.

"I am also impressed with the BSN Premium Savings Certificate because through their lucky draws, there's so many prizes up for grabs, and it makes me very happy," he added.
