KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) has launched an Emergency Fund for Palestine to assist the severely affected population due to the continued attacks by Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued yesterday, MRA has provided an immediate donation of RM100,000 to address urgent needs, such as to provide medical assistance, hospital equipment, shelter and food.

MRA hopes that more assistance can be channelled to the Palestinian people within the next week, as the number of casualties continues to rise.

According to sources from Gaza, the latest Palestinian casualty figures are estimated at 700 people, with an additional 2,300 reported as injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire response.

The conflict between Palestinian fighters and Israeli military forces is ongoing in the cities of Gaza, Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahiya, Jabalia, Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, Rafah, and the border areas with Israel and Egypt.

MRA president, Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman said that the impact of this battle is highly complex and violent, resulting in significant suffering and loss of life.

"Israel's arrogance over the past seven decades has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children."

"MRA urges an immediate ceasefire by both parties and attacks on civilian areas that have claimed hundreds of lives must also be stopped," the statement read.

MRA invites the members of the public to contribute and help the humanitarian conflict through the Palestinian Emergency Fund via the Malaysian Relief Agency Berhad account (Maybank - 5640 9820 8020).
