JOHOR BARU: It is too early for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to undertake a massive cabinet reshuffle at this point, said former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Hot FM Deejay shared his views that a cabinet reshuffle now will defeat its purpose as the current cabinet ministers are relatively new, serving the people for merely under a year.

Khairy believes that the existing cabinet ministers should be given the opportunity to demonstrate their key performance indicators (KPI).

"The Prime Minister has two options now; he should either fill the vacancy left by the late Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, or to conduct a major cabinet reshuffle.

"In my opinion, it might be a bit too early because it's not even a year yet and it's quite unusual to have a massive cabinet reshuffle in such a short period," he said at the Johor International Youth Conference 2023 held at the Persada International Convention Centre, here, today.

Earlier, the New Straits Times reported that the vacancy left by the late Salahuddin sparked speculations about a potential cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Khairy, who is the Johor Youth Advisor for Johor, said traditionally, cabinet reshuffles are conducted after two years to provide the cabinet ministers with an opportunity to demonstrate their performance.

"If the period is less than that, it's an uphill task to see positive results. To be fair to cabinet ministers, they should be given more time to showcase their performances," he said.
