KUALA LUMPUR: Polytechnic and community college students under the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) along with matriculation students and those in teacher education institutes (IPG) under the Education Ministry (MoE) will receive subsidised airfare ticket purchases effective from today.

The initiative, which was first introduced on July 12, was undertaken by the Transport Ministry (MoT) for public university students on domestic routes between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

In a statement today, MoT said students can check their eligibility through the website https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/.

"After checking, eligible students can apply for subsidised airfare ticket purchases from any airline company such as Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and FireFly), AirAsia, Batik Air, and MYAirline that they choose," said the ministry.

After receiving the application, the airline company will issue a digital voucher worth RM300 to the student as a credit shell for purchasing flight tickets.

If the ticket purchased is less than RM300, the remaining balance of the digital voucher will remain in the credit shell and can be used for future ticket purchases

The final redemption date for purchasing flight tickets with the voucher is on Dec 31.

However, purchasing flight tickets for travel after the voucher redemption deadline is still allowed.

Meanwhile, for students found ineligible, they can check and appeal to MoE or MoHE through their respective educational institutions.

As of now, eligible students are only those who are enrolled in polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation programme, and teacher education institutes until the academic session 2022/2023 and have not completed their studies after that academic session.

This effort is one of the unity government's initiatives to strengthen the relationship between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, in addition to addressing cost of living issues.
