KUALA LUMPUR: The Integrated Operation for Local White Rice at rice wholesaler premises, led by Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin in Selangor on Thursday, found adequate supply of both local and imported white rice.

In a statement today, the ministry said the operation involved 42 enforcement officers and the police and included the sampling of rice and stock calculations.

The preliminary examination results found that all rice wholesaler premises had valid licences within the expiration period, and rice stocks did not exceed the licensed capacity.

"All the samples taken were in accordance with the established enforcement procedures and will be handed over to the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi).

"The analysis will detect any rice substitution or blending activities between local white rice and imported white rice," the statement said.

The ministry, it said, will not compromise with any party found to be engaging in rice substitution, mixing of local and imported rice, or concealing supplies of local white rice.

The integrated operation involved cross-agency enforcement cooperation, including the Padi and Rice Control Enforcement Office of the ministry, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement division, police and the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Service (Maqis).
