KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya will announce the outcome of its review on chicken and egg subsidies, as well as its price control soon.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohammad Sabu said the government would make a decision on the matter in a couple of days.
"The chicken and egg situation (supplies) have stabilised. The prices (observed in the market) have been lower than the set ceiling prices.
"I have presented this to the cabinet in the meeting earlier (today)," he told reporters after attending the Malaysia-Japan bilateral meeting at the 45th Asean Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Meeting (AMAF).
Mohamad however refused to divulge details when asked to confirm whether the government would end the subsidies for the poultry products.
The government had initially planned to float prices of chicken and egg from July 1.
It was however decided that it would continue giving subsidies and imposing ceiling prices on them.
The retail ceiling price for standard processed chicken remains at RM9.40 per kg, while grade A eggs are 45 sen each, grade B (43 sen) and grade C (41 sen).
