PUTRAJAYA: The Defence Ministry (Mindef) said it is currently refining the government-to-government (G2G) process between Malaysia and Turkiye over the procurement of military assets from the European country.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said this would ensure that any of the country's future military deals will be done with more transparency.

"Indeed, if we look at a part of our current process, it is our aim to have transparency in the purchase of national defence assets.

"We entrust our military personnel to choose defence assets, but in terms of implementation, we are emphasising more on the G2G process.

"So, we are refining our agreements to ensure that the G2G concept enables us to ensure that our assets arrive as scheduled," he said after attending the launch of the Cultivating Defence Research and Development (R&D) Programme in School spearheaded by the Science & Technology Research Institute For Defence (Stride).

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had expressed Malaysia's intention to acquire military assets from Turkiye.

He said the decision regarding the plan was submitted to the Armed Forces Council without disturbance or interference from other parties.

He also said it was up to Mindef to negotiate with the Finance Ministry and Turkiye in the purchase of such assets.
