KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Election and Institutional Reform will still meet the former and current attorneys-general (A-G) over the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) given to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Despite the DNAA issue being explained by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Lower House last week, committee chairman William Leong said the proceedings would continue as the main aim was to study the proposal to separate the powers of the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) and Public Prosecutor's Office.

"This is because the public perception is that there is interference in the public prosecutor's duties, starting from the A-G as the legal adviser to the government and also as the public prosecutor," he told Berita Harian.

Leong was asked whether the current A-G Datuk Ahmad Terriruddin Mohd Salleh alongside his predecessor Tan Sri Idris Harun will still give an explanation over the DNAA granted towards Zahid over 47 charges related to misappropriation of funds in his Yayasan Akal Budi (YAB) case after Anwar explained the matter in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Anwar had, when explaining the matter, said that there was a precedent over the DNAA issue, despite the establishment of a prima facie case.

He had also urged any parties to come forward with concrete evidence to prove his interference in the case.

On Sept 12, Leong had announced that the PSSC would invite Terrirudin and Idris to explain the issue.

He had also said the committee was studying the proposal to separate the role of the public prosecutor from the A-G, aside from re-examining the DNAA decision.

He had added that the select committee was also doing a thorough investigation regarding several issues that will be presented to both Terrirudin and Idris.
