AYER KEROH: The Melaka government continues its strategic partnership with tourism and media industry players to make Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY2024) successful.

This includes establishing a strategic partnership with Media Prima Berhad (MPB), which was appointed as the official media partner of VMY2024.

Melaka chief minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the appointment was to recognise MPB as the country's largest and most influential media conglomerate company.

"Based on experience and expertise, MPB, which has integrated operations including television networks, newspapers, radio and digital advertising, can indirectly help the state government promote the VMY2024 campaign," he said.

He said this at today's VMY2024 promotion programme at the Melaka International Trade Center (MITC).

The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the state government and MPB was also held, witnessed by Ab Rauf and MPB group chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussian Aljunid.

The state government was represented by the State Secretary, Datuk Zaidi Johari and the state tourism, heritage, arts and culture exco, Datuk Abd Razak Abd Rahman, while MPB was represented by the MPB Omnia Sdn Bhd chief operating officer, Datuk Mohd Effendi Omar and Media Prima Television Networks deputy group editor (news and current affairs) Azhari Muhidin.

Also present were the state assembly speaker, Datuk Ibrahim Durum, state senior exco, Datuk Rais Yasin and Harian Metro group editor Husain Jahit.

In the meantime, Ab Rauf said, 70 events, including 32 major tourism events, are being organised to enliven VMY2024 further next year.

Among the events slated to take place this year are Pesta Gendang Nusantara 2024 on Jan 1 to 6 at Dataran Bandaraya MBMB, narrating the moment of independence with Tunku Abdul Rahman (Feb 20 in Bandar Hilir) as well as a Freshwater Fish Angling and Cooking Competition 2024 (Feb 25).

Also lined up are the Melaka International Muaythai Tournament (March 2 to 4 at Menara Taming Sari), Melaka Dutch Week 2024 (April 22 to 28) and Melaka Motorsport Carnival (May 10 to 12).

"I invite all tourism industry players, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Melaka and the rest of the country, to join the state government in welcoming and make VMY2024 a success," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Effendi said MPB was grateful to the Melaka government for trusting the largest media company to make VMY2024 a success.

"God willing, we will use all available platforms to help the state government make VMY2024 a success.

"Various plans have been put together to ensure that the promotion carried out with the Melaka government will be done comprehensively and spread throughout the country," he said.
