KUALA LUMPUR: The "Red Shirts" gathering and assembly in response to Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth's 'Save Malaysia' rally tomorrow has been called off, announced Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.

Jamal who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief said this was because PN Youth has now moved its gathering to Kampung Baru, here.

"We planned to gather after Perikatan Youth said they would be at the Sogo shopping centre or Bukit Bintang.

"Since they have shifted their venue, we will not hold any gathering," he said in a statement yesterday.

PN had initiated the rally to protest the discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted to Zahid on 47 corruption-related charges over the alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to Yayasan Akal Budi.

The rally organisers have been urging the public to join the rally, which it said will be attended by "top leaders" of political parties and NGOs.

The organisers, however, have not applied for permission to carry out the rally, as confirmed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid on Wednesday.

On Monday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay had warned that police will take stern action against the organisers and participants of the rally.
