SHAH ALAM: The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and his entourage have successfully reached the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and completed a charity climb to raise funds for deaf and mute children.
The Selangor Royal Office in a statement today said the expedition launched by Tengku Amir Shah himself was aimed at raising funds to establish a special care centre for children with hearing and speech disorders at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam.
"Tengku Amir Shah has successfully completed a climbing expedition to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters high.
"His Majesty was accompanied by his cousin, Engku Panglima Setia Diraja Datuk Syed Haizam Jamalullail; His Majesty's brother-in-law, Datuk Setia Aubry Rahim Mennesson; Orang Besar Istana Tengku Ezrique Ezzuddean and his friend, Keong Yeen Keoh during the mission to conquer the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro.
"One of the main driving forces of the mission which was launched on August 31 is the predicament of families with children suffering from hearing and speech impairments that have to spend a high cost for their treatment.
"This includes Syed Haizam's daughter who has had the same problem since the age of three," the statement read.
In 2012, Tengku Amir Shah had also participated in a similar climbing expedition to Mount Kinabalu, Sabah where he was joined by 23 disabled children from the Cheshire Home.
