JOHOR BARU: Umno has been advised not to field candidates who lost in the state polls and those aged 45 and above in future elections.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the party needs to craft a new narrative that resonates with voters in order to capture their attention.

"Umno is once again facing a challenging test, having secured victory in only 19 out of the 108 contested seats. The party is witnessing a decline in Malay support.

"While discovering a fresh formula is no simple task, Umno should refrain from panicking and should remain within the unity government. Prioritising the economic agenda of the people and the nation is paramount.

"Individuals who have faced defeat and those aged 45 and above ought not to participate in the upcoming elections. Party position is not a ticket to be a candidate.

"Umno ministers must deliver to prevent public disenchantment with the party. A new narrative is imperative to effectively engage with voters," he said in a Facebook posting today.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance successfully defended three states—Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan—in the state election conducted yesterday.

Among the six state elections, BN's most successful performance was in Negri Sembilan, where it secured victory in 14 out of the 17 contested seats. Meanwhile, it managed to secure two seats each in Penang and Selangor, and one seat in Kelantan.

BN failed to win any seats in Kedah and Terengganu.
