SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that he received a call from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding a corruption and misappropriation of funds case for a project involving the son in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Muhammad Adlan Berhan.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, revealed that the MACC's chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki had contacted him and informed him that Muhammad Adlan had reneged on a promise he had made to return to the country after he was allowed to leave to handle and see to some matters overseas.

The Prime Minister said that during the call, Azam informed him that the case involving Muhammad Adlan was a 'big case'.

"During my journey from Sungai Long to Cuah, Port Dickson, I received a call from the chief commissioner of the MACC (Azam) that Muhyiddin's son in-law had run away, so I asked, where has he run off to?

"I asked if it was a small or big case, he (Azam) told me that it was a big case. They have carried out investigations and have issued, given notice already.

"Then I asked how could he (Muhammad Adlan) have left the country? He (Muhammad Adlan) said he was leaving the country but that he would return.

"He has not kept his word and has yet to return," said Anwar when speaking at the Negri Sembilan Jelajah Perpaduan Madani at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last night (Aug 8).

Before this, it was reported that the MACC were tracking and looking for two men to aid and facilitate investigations into a corruption case and misappropriation of funds concerning a project on the registration, taking and storage of foreign workers' biometrics at a government ministry.

The MACC issued a statement saying that the two individuals are Muhammad Adlan Berhan, 48, whose last known address is Lot 65, Sunway Kiara Hills, Jalan 32/70A Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

The other individual being Mansoor Saat, 69, whose last known address is No 5, Jalan SS19/1C Subang Jaya, Selangor.

After this, it was reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin refused to make any comments on the status of his son in-law, Muhammad Adlan who is being sought after by the MACC.

Speaking further on the matter, Anwar said that he did not want to pass judgement nor verdict on Muhyiddin's son in-law. In fact, he said, he is leaving it to the judiciary to determine if Muhammad Adlan is innocent or guilty.

"If he does not return then what happens is we give due notice. But the judge will decide where the investigation process is concerned.

"We do not even know whether it is an innocent or guilty verdict yet, it's just that he (MACC) said that there was a case," he said.

Anwar, who is also the Tambun Member of Parliament (MP), chided the PN leadership for claiming to be clean during their election campaign when they were also involved in legal cases concerning misappropriation of funds and missing funds.
