ALOR SETAR: Caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said all 10 state executive councillors have been called in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in investigations into the alleged theft of rare earth elements (REE).

He said the MACC had yet to contact him in relation to the case.

"I am also surprised. Never before have executive councillors been called in to verify the minutes of a meeting.

"Some of them have given their statements, some have not.

"Perhaps I will be called in after that."

He said this after the Kedah State Development Corporation's business zakat presentation ceremony for 2022 and 2023 at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Caretaker Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Halimaton Shaadiah Saad confirmed that she had been contacted by the MACC to give her statement.

"Perhaps I will do so tomorrow. I am not sure why I am being called in because I have not met them yet."

On July 20, the MACC confirmed that it had recorded statements from 12 people in connection with alleged corruption over the theft of REE in Sik, Kedah.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had said more people would be called in, including Sanusi.

A day earlier, MACC arrested the chief executive officer of Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and a female director of a company to assist in the investigation.

The suspects were arrested in Alor Setar and Kuala Lumpur.
