KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim paid tribute to long-time comrade Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub at the 'Jelajah Perpaduan Madani' event in Kelantan, tonight.

Anwar, who is the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said the late Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister was a great figure, who had been with him for many years.

"He was a hard worker and one of his works, the Rahmah programme, was carried out meticulously.

"Salahuddin tirelessly went all over the country (for the initiative) to reduce the people's burden and the cost of living," he said.

Earlier, Anwar in a statement conveyed his deepest condolences to Salahuddin's family following his passing at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, tonight.

Anwar said Salahuddin's passing was a huge loss for himself and his family.

"Rest well, my friend. May Allah SWT grants great patience to your family, forgive all your sins and may you be placed in the highest place by His side, God willing."

Earlier, Salahuddin's daughter Fatihah Salahuddin announced the sad news in a posting on her Facebook account.

Her posting read: "With sadness, it is hereby informed that our head of family has passed away at 9.23pm, 23 July 2023".

Salahuddin Ayub had been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HSB after undergoing surgery to treat brain haemorrhage yesterday.

He was rushed to the hospital at about 10.15pm Friday, after developing nausea and vomiting.

He had arrived in Kedah on Friday morning to attend several programmes prior to the incident.
