SELAYANG: The results of the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) have shown an increase in the national cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to 2.82 for the 2022 examination compared to 2.79 in 2021.
Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) chairman Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the overall national CGPA for the 2022 STPM increased by 0.03 points, making it the highest since the implementation of the examination.
"A total of 1,184 candidates or 2.84 per cent of candidates achieved a CGPA of 4.00.
"The number of candidates achieving a CGPA of 4.00 increased by 310, from 874 candidates in 2021 to 1,184 last year, with 1,009 or 85.22 per cent from the B40 category.
"In terms of candidate CGPA achievements, the percentage of 2022 STPM candidates who obtained a CGPA of 3.75 and above is 9.59 per cent, CGPA of 3.00 and above is 42.96 per cent, CGPA of 2.75 and above is 56.97 per cent and CGPA of 2.00 and above is 89.75 per cent, all showing an improvement compared with 2021," he said during the 2022 STPM results announcement ceremony at the MPM headquarters here today.
Dr Mohd Ekhwan, who is also the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia vice-chancellor, added that the number of candidates achieving 5As in all five subjects taken had also increased from 36 candidates in 2021 to 38 in the 2022 STPM examination.
"Out of the 38 candidates who achieved 5A, 26 of them are from the B40 category.
"The number of candidates achieving 4A has also increased from 860 candidates in 2021 to 1,158 candidates last year."This increase is by 298 candidates, or 34.65 per cent from 2021, and 993 of them are candidates from the B40 category."
He said that overall, all 23 subjects offered in the 2022 STPM examination recorded a pass rate of over 60 per cent, which is grade C and above.
"For the 2022 STPM examination, out of the 41,701 candidates who sat for the exam, 99.98 per cent or 41,694 candidates are eligible to be awarded the STPM certificate, while only 0.02 per cent or seven candidates are not eligible to receive this certificate.
"The requirement to obtain the certificate is that candidates must achieve a pass in at least one subject."
He added that MPM also selected 17 top students in various categories including B40, Orang Asli and special needs students, to each receive RM1,000, a plaque and a certificate.
