KUALA LUMPUR: MCA and MIC's decision to skip the upcoming state elections will not affect their pledge of allegiance towards the unity government.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said, although the decision to skip the state elections was under Barisan Nasional's (BN) purview, both MCA and MIC presidents had given their assurance to support the unity government.

"Both of them (the presidents) have called and told me that even though they will not contest at this point, they will give their unwavering support (to the unity government).

"(And) while I believe that the decision to skip is under the purview of BN, I am thankful for the support and help that are given by them, as well as their assurance in supporting the government's position," he said when met by reporters after the 2023 International Social Wellbeing Conference, today.

Yesterday, respective party leaders from MCA and MIC announced their decision to skip the upcoming state elections.

In a separate statement issued, both parties assured that it would continue to play as the component party to BN.
