MELAKA: Less than 24 hours before Aidiladha, wooden chopping boards made by Ibrahim Ujam, 70, are flying off the shelves.

With an attractive price of just RM4 per per piece, his handiwork is receiving extraordinary response, especially as Aidiladha looms near. Comparable items on the market can go for RM50 or more.

Ibrahim, of Kampung Bukit Rambai near here, usually sells his handiwork at Pasar Borong Batu Berendam.

He says he is grateful that his business has survived for 13 years and has maintained prices for more than a decade.

There are two types of chopping boards sold by Ibrahim, the RM4 piece can be bought for RM10 for three units, while the more expensive ones retails for RM6 per unit.

"Most of the people who buy my boards are the elderly. They are traditional , as well as attractive, durable and strong. Well-suited for cutting fruit, vegetables and meat," he said.

The chopping boards are made of various types of woods and are produced with the help of his wife, Azizah Bakar, 65.

He even ships boards to several locations, including Rembau and around Alor Gajah and Masjid Tanah, to fill orders.

One of his customers, Siti Rohani Dolah, 61, from Bachang, said she has bought cutting boards from Ibrahim three times.

She has also presented boards to her sister and neighbour, who inquired about them during a recent Aidiladha gotong-royong.

She said the boards were affordable and durable.
