KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Zulyadain Mohamad Radzi is appealing for funds from the public to purchase a prosthetic leg worth RM17,585 after his right leg had to be amputated due to chronic diabetes.

Mohd Zulyadain, 39, who is from Permatang Pauh, desperately needs the prosthetic leg to assist with his mobility and daily activities.

He had previously worked as a factory supervisor before his leg was amputated.

"I went to the hospital because my right leg started emitting a putrid smell. I was later diagnosed with diabetes and the doctor recommended that my right leg be amputated to mitigate further risks.

"My above-knee amputation (AKA) was done at Hospital Seberang Jaya on June 3 last year.

Although he can now sit in a wheelchair and move around with assistance, he still relies on his friend, Mohd Hanif Othman, 34, for support.

"At our rented house, Hanif takes care of all my needs, from eating and drinking to assisting me with bathroom visits. I am deeply grateful for his selflessness," Mohd Zulyadain said in an online interview today.

"Both of my parents have also passed away and my siblings sometimes come and provide assistance whenever they visit. However, they also have their own difficulties and my younger sibling is a person with disabilities (PwD)," he said.

Due to his health issues, Mohd Zulyadain was compelled to resign from his job, resulting in a loss of income. Furthermore, his illness depleted his savings entirely.

He hopes to have a prosthetic leg to facilitate walking so that he can be independent for his livelihood.

"I hope to have a prosthetic leg to walk as usual, even if it's not perfect like before. I also hope that someone is willing to help because I am truly unable to afford it.

"I also want to be independent and, if possible, engage in small-scale business because currently, I have no source of income," Mohd Zulyadain said.

Those who wish to help can send cheques made payable to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund to the Group Corporate Communications Department, Media Prima Bhd, Level 4, Anjung Riong, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, with the patient's name written on the reverse side of the cheque.
