KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today congratulated Turkiye's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan who was re-elected as the republic's 13th President.

In a Twitter post, Anwar said Malaysia looked forward to further elevating both countries' existing excellent bilateral relations.

"Congratulations to Erdogan for being elected as the 13th president of the Republic of Turkiye in the recent presidential election.

"Turkiye will continue to play a constructive role as an important regional and global player.

"Malaysia looks forward to working closely with Turkiye to further elevate both countries' existing excellent bilateral relations," he said.

On Sunday, Bernama reported that Erdogan was re-elected as Turkiye's president in a runoff election, stretching his rule into a third decade.

Based on the results, the Turkiye's incumbent won the race with 52.14 per cent, while opposition challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu got 47.86 per cent of the votes.
