KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1.3 million overdue traffic summonses have been settled since the government offered discounted prices on April 21.

Federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) director Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim said, after 16 days of the discount being on offer, the response has been encouraging.

"TEID's target was to ensure that people take advantage of this chance as most of the overdue summonses from 2022 and before that are eligible for this special rate.

"This rate (where summonses can be settled for just RM50) ends on May 21, and the public can settle them using various platforms," he said when contacted.

Kasim said the public can pay for their summonses online, via the myBayar PDRM app, at all TEID counters and at post offices.

"Apart from that, their summonses can also be paid via Maybank automated teller machines. This discount of up to 86 per cent is part of the government's aim to help the people by reducing the financial burdens they are facing," he said.

On April 18, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced a slew of measures the government was introducing to help the people in reducing their financial burdens. They included the special rate for summonses.
