LONDON: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said he and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are looking forward to attending the coronation of his long-time friend King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla.

"I was telling my wife it will be a proud moment for me as I have known him since my younger days (at Sandhurst) and to see him sworn in as a king," said Al-Sultan Abdullah yesterday before Their Majesties left for a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Charles and Camilla for foreign dignitaries.

Their Majesties had met Charles at Buckingham Palace last year after attending the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

It will be a historic moment for Their Majesties, who were invited to the coronation. They arrived here on May 3.

It has been 70 years since Elizabeth's coronation on June 2, 1953. Four sultans had attended her coronation. She ascended to the throne after King George VI's death.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong will be among 450 foreign dignitaries attending the coronation at Westminster Abbey at 1100 BST.

Charles will become the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned there since 1066.
