KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan has been appointed the new Health director-general.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa in a statement today congratulated Dr Radzi on his appointment, which took effect on April 21.

"With his experience, knowledge and expertise, as well as credibility, I am confident that Dr Radzi is capable of giving his best and become a team partner along with me.

"(We will) ensure a holistic implementation of the country's health vision and reform agenda in line with the Health White Paper that is currently being developed, so that the Malaysia Madani society continues to enjoy comprehensive, quality and sustainable health services," she said in the statement.

Dr Radzi previously served as Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's medical department head in Kedah and Kedah Clinical Research Centre head, she said.

He had also worked as Gastroenterology and Hepatology Services chief and chair the credentialling for the fields between 2013 and 2021.

"His appointment was based on qualifications and vast experience in the country's health services as the health deputy director-general (research and technical support) at the Health Ministry before being appointed as director-general."
