KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 996 Chinese national-type primary schools (SJKC) are involved in a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting healthy eating habits among schoolchildren.

Kempen Pemakanan Seimbang Champs is organised by Duopharma Biotech Bhd in collaboration with Sin Chew Media Corporation and the National Union of Heads of Schools Malaysia (Kesatuan Kebangsaan Guru-Guru Besar Malaysia).

The campaign is supported by Dopharma's leading nutrition brand, Champs, as its main sponsor.

Duopharma Biotech Bhd chief executive officer (commercial) Wan Amir Jeffery Wan Abdul Majid said the campaign would run March 20 to Dec 15 and comprises a series of fun and interactive activities.

"In conjunction with the campaign, nutrition talks will be conducted at 100 selected SJKC primary schools.

"Students will learn about the importance of a balanced diet and how it can impact their overall health and wellbeing.

"The talks will be conducted by nutrition experts from the health ministry who will provide valuable insights and practical tips on making healthy food choices," Wan Amir added.

The campaign was officially launched today at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Starling Mall by Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, witnessed by Sin Chew Media Group executive director and Sin Chew Daily chief executive officer Koo Cheng and National Union of Heads of Schools Malaysia president Chuan Soo Cheng.

Also present were teachers and students from participating schools and nutritionists from the health ministry.

The campaign also includes a drawing and writing competition for students to encourage them to express their understanding of a balanced nutrition and healthy eating through creative artwork or written compositions.

"The competition aims to foster creativity, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the importance of a well-balanced diet," Lim said during the launch.

She added that the education minister also planned to continue this campaign for other schoolchildren nationwide, especially those in rural areas.

"The Duopharma Biotech company is interested in contributing to not only SJKC but to other schools as well," she told the reporters in a press conference today.
