The meeting this time around also saw the passing of the death penalty abolishment after it passed the Dewan Rakyat by a majority voice note to support its removal via the Abolishment of the Mandatory Death Penalty Bill 2023.

The move will be finalised once the Dewan Negara gives the green light and royal assent is received in removing the capital punishment.

Also passed were amendments to the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code that make stalking a criminal offence.

Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat will convene for the second meeting of the second session for 11 days from May 22 to June 15.
