KUALA LUMPUR: The government will allow rescheduling of payments or deferments for up to six months for entrepreneurs affected by the floods, particularly those who received funding from agencies under the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.

Its minister Datuk Ewon Benedick (Pakatan Harapan-Penampang) said the flexibility is meant to assist entrepreneurs affected by the flood, especially in light of the economic crisis that is expected to happen this year.

"The policy will allow those who took loans with agencies under us, particularly entrepreneurs who were hit by the flood, to reschedule their payment, or defer them up to a maximum of six months," he said during the question and answer session in Dewan Rakyat, today.

He said this in response to a supplementary question from Manndzri Nasib (Barisan Nasional-Tenggara) on the ministry's measures to assist entrepreneurs affected by the flood.

Ewon added that the ministry was also committed to assisting entrepreneurs and ensuring the survival of their businesses.

He said the ministry, through the Professional Training and Education For Growing Entrepreneurs (Protege) programme, also planned to implement several entrepreneurial initiatives among graduates this year with a RM5 million allocation.

"It will benefit 12,450 graduates through the implementation of the New Generation Entrepreneurs Online Boot Camp (N-GENE) and Apprentice Entrepreneurs Programme (Space).

"Hence, the ministry, through its agencies, will continue to offer various special funds and training to the youth."
