ALOR STAR: Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah today called on all relevant stakeholders to work together to support the expansion of Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) to cater to the demand from investors.

Sultan Sallehuddin decreed that Kedah has secured RM13.1 billion investment with the manufacturing sector pulling RM12 billion in investments, among the highest in the country.

"In the manufacturing sector, Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) as the electrical and electronic hub is the jewel of the state investment. Over 90 per cent of the investments in Kedah are concentrated in the area.

"As such, the government plans to expand KHTP to the next phase which is in line with the current investment market.

"I am made to understand that the process of land acquisition for KHTP is being carried out.

"I wish to call for all stakeholders to extend cooperation in resolving the land acquisition process and other plannings involving KHTP expansion so that the government's aspiration to empower the state economic landscape and investment could be achieved," Sultan Sallehuddin said in his royal address while opening the sixth term meeting of the 14th State Legislative Assembly at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

In expressing his satisfaction with the state administration led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in attracting high investments to Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin said the RM13.1 billion investment would create over 6,000 new jobs.

It was reported that nearly 50 multinational corporations are operating in Kedah, mostly in Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP).

The state required the federal government's support for the expansion of Phase 4A, followed by the opening of Phase 5 to cater to strong demand from investors.

Phase 4A of KHTP is being developed using internal funding from the Kulim Technology Park Corporation (KTPC) and the state is seeking funding from the federal government to roll out Phase 5 of KHTP.
