SEGAMAT: The Chaah police station here was inundated by flood water as major parts of Johor were struck by flood following continuous heavy rain since late yesterday.

In a video seen by NST, flood water rose to almost knee high at the station.

Videos of the flood in Labis and Chaah in Segamat and Kahang in Kluang have also been making the rounds on social media, showing some roads and the Labis town being inundated by flood water.

Meanwhile, the flood evacuation operation in the Chaah here has been taken over by the Yong Peng fire station and the Chaah Volunteer Firemen Team (PBS) after the Labis fire station was cut off as the Jalan Labis - Chaah was flooded.

Labis fire station chief Muhamad Hafifie Md Sarif said the personnel from the station are still carrying out operations around Labis with two being dispatched in affected areas.

"We have to submit to nature's occurrence but with the support from the Yong Peng station and the Chaah PBS, the evacuation operation in Chaah is running smoothly. Heavy rain has caused many areas to be flooded and the number of evacuees continues to rise.

"Rescue works in the affected areas are still ongoing. Kampung Tenang, Pekan Air Panas and Kampung Juaseh have been cut off because the road is flooded while in Bandar Labis and several residential areas nearby, water has risen to about one metre high," said Hafifie in a statement.

As at 4 am, 746 victims from 209 families have been evacuated to six relief centres in Labis.
