KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) did not rule out the possibility that the alleged MV Dai Cat 06 video that went viral today is an old footage.

Its director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som when contacted said the 21 seconds video could be an old video that was recorded while the ship was very near to land.

"Karimun is near Johor.

"The phone line is still there so maybe it's an old video," he said, briefly.

Asked if there was any update on the search, Mohd Zubil said, everything had been shared in the past reports.

A woman earlier shared a video that allegedly showed MV Dai Cat 06 sailing aimlessly due to equipment malfunction.

Fatimah, 47, when contacted, claimed that one of the crew members of the missing ship had sent the video to her son about a week ago.

"Their engine is no longer working, so they are sailing with the waves. (At that time) they are near Karimun Island, Indonesia.

"All of the ship's three global positioning systems are not functioning," she said.

A man was also heard in the video saying that all their equipment - radio and GPS were not functioning.

MV Dai Cat 06 departed from Kampung Acheh in Lumut, Perak, on Dec 23 and was supposed to arrive in Kuching on Dec 31.

It was announced missing on Jan 10.

The ship consists of three Malaysians and two Indonesians, with the captain identified as a man named Adi, 43, from Indonesia.

Its senior engineer is Indonesian Damai Papane Ole, 57.

Locals onboard the ship were Mohammad Syafarizan Mohd Noor, 24, Mohammad Sudeh Sudin, 20, and Derrent Littor, 22.

The 52m-long vessel was carrying a cargo of metal pipes worth RM726,205.
