MELAKA: The Melaka branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has disposed of confiscated goods worth RM587,065 involving 46 cases under various offences last year.

Its director, Norena Jaafar, said it included the disposal of 4,300 pairs of imitation international branded sports shoes and slippers worth RM85,710 involving a case under the Trademarks Act of 2019.

"The case has been completed and the individual involved fined a total of RM55,000 by the court for the offence of selling counterfeit goods, which were detected by Melaka KPDN and the result of surveillance by the trademark owner.

"We found a trend of sellers of counterfeit goods also using private residences to avoid being detected," she told a press conference on the disposal of the seized items at Stor Simpanan Berpusat KPDN in Krubong here, today.

Commenting further, Norena said that most of these traders sell fake Grade B goods that are significantly different from genuine goods with prices offered to consumers much lower than the market.

She added that Melaka KPDN also recorded 44 cases throughout last year involving the confiscation of goods amounting to RM2.19 million under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and the Trademarks Act 2019.

Meanwhile, she said Melaka KPDN was closely monitoring eateries offering 'Menu Rahmah' meals to prevent any party from taking advantage in terms of the original price or quality sold to consumers.
