NEW DELHI: Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan visited the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufacturing plant in southern India today.

His tour included the facility in Bangalore, where HAL makes its Tejas light-combat aircraft (LCA).

While visiting the production line, Asghar climbed into the cockpit of a Tejas LCA for a closer look at its equipment.

HAL briefed him on the complex and its production facilities, a Malaysian official told Bernama.

Asghar is in Bangalore to attend the Aero India aviation show from Feb 13 to 17.

On Tuesday, he discussed with HAL officials maintenance services for Russian-made Sukhoi-30 fighter jets operated by Malaysia.

The RMAF chief's meeting with HAL's senior management also touched on exchange of expertise.

The issue of SU-30 services also figured in a meeting the Air Force chief had with Russian companies on Monday (Feb 13).

HAL makes the Su-30 MKI multirole aircraft under licence from Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

While announcing its plan to open an office in Kuala Lumpur to tap new business opportunities in Southeast Asia in August last year, HAL had also expressed interest in the RMAF's Su-30 aircraft upgrades. – BERNAMA
