BAYAN LEPAS: A dog that was stuck on a ledge on the 10th floor of an apartment building on Wednesday played hard to get with rescuers.

A video of the dog's antics has been shared more than 10,000 times since the Fire and Rescue Department posted it on Facebook yesterday.

The post's caption said: "Bukan senang nak pujuk nie. Abang Bomba juga la kena bagi ayat manis." (It won't be easy to coax. Looks like firemen will have to use sweet words.)

Seri Balik Pulau Fire Station operation chief Leo Sana Sandi said the dog rescue going viral was a surprise.

"We received a call about a dog in distress stuck on the 10th floor ledge. At first, the dog was quite aggressive, perhaps due to fear. Then I slowly inched closer.

"It had been on the ledge since morning, so I asked for some food to give to the dog.

"When I approached it with food, the dog started to calm down. But it refused to look at me and turned its head towards the wall instead."

Leo Sana said he was amused by the dog's behaviour and continued to try to get it to stay calm.

"A teammate and I covered the dog's eyes with a cloth and a sack before we carried it to safety."

He said residents said the dog was a stray that roamed around the neighbourhood.

He said once the dog was rescued, it was released.

He said the department was unsure how the dog got stuck.

The video has received more than 4,000 comments, with many netizens praising the firefighters for empathising with the dog.

Max Tan said: "Dia punya girlfriend tak mau dia, so dia sedih." (The dog's girlfriend rejected it, so it is sad.)

Priscilla Jay said: "Bang, bagi la dia masuk K9. Sian dia merajuk lama dah apply." (Brother, let it join the K9 unit. Pity, the dog is sulking because it has applied for a long time.)
