KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today alleged that "monetary reward" was the reason voters rejected the coalition during the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Umno president said such behaviour must be eradicated before the running of the six state elections that must be held by the middle of the year.

"Elements of politics have changed from developmental politics to service politics.

"(However), even when members of parliament or assemblymen served their constituents diligently over five years, the mindset of (people who believed in) service politics was easily changed when they were bought over by outsiders.

"The political analysts who conducted empirical and non-empirical studies on GE15 failed to realise that monetary reward was the major factor behind the so called 'green tsunami'," he said during the programme Naratif Khas on RTM tonight.

BN only won 30 seats during GE15, its worst showing to date.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 73 seats, turning Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu "green", and wrested several of both BN and Pakatan Harapan's stronghold seats.
