KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Poultry Breeders Association is keen to meet Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu to discuss the egg shortage issue.

Chairman Idrus Zainal Abidin said: "I have sent a letter and email to the minister, but have yet to receive any response.

"As I have said, I wish to meet him in person to discuss the issue.

"I also want to introduce the association. Perhaps he's unaware that this association exists.

"We can then discuss the best way to address the egg supply shortage," Idrus told "Harian Metro" today.

He said were many people were unaware about the difficulties faced by poultry farmers.

"We are chicken farmers, so we know this issue. For this reason, we need to hold a meeting. I'm hoping for an immediate response from the minister."

Idrus had denied that there was a shortage of chicken eggs, adding that eggs were even being exported.

It was this statement that led to the association wanting to meet Mohamad.

It had said Mohamad may not have been briefed on the situation involving poultry breeders.

Idrus had said that the decision by the government to source eggs from overseas would affect local breeders.
