BENTONG: Five vehicles, including two lorries, were involved in the accident at Km 42.9 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway leading to Kuantan about 12.30 pm today.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said two Scania lorries, a Toyota Vios, Naza Ria and Honda Civic were involved in the accident.

"Two men were seriously injured as a result of the accident. The Fire and Rescue Department provided assistance before referring them to Bentong Hospital for further treatment," he said.

The highway's concessionaire ANIH Bhd said the accident led to a 21.2km-long traffic congestion. It said the gridlock started from Km21.7 of the highway until the accident's location.

Zulfadli added that Km42.9 of the highway was blocked due to the accident.

"From Km53.4 to the accident location, there is a 10.4km-long stretch of heavy traffic. More vehicles can also be seen on the road, from Km21.3 to the Gombak Toll Plaza."

The authorities said cleaning work was scheduled to be completed by 6pm.

Road users are encouraged to plan their trips beforehand.
