SUNGAI BULOH: Nurul Azwani Kamarulzaman, 31, one of the Batang Kali landslide victims, was planning to spend the school holidays with her mother, Siti Esah Hassan, 53, and her family in Kuantan, Pahang.

"We did not expect that Nurul Azwani's first camping trip would end in tragedy," said the victim's cousin, Nor Azman Mat Zain, 48.

Nurul Azwani was one of 24 victims killed when a landslide struck a campsite at Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali on Friday, sending 450,000 cubic meters of earth over the site.

Nor Azman said the deceased worked at the canteen in SJKC Mun Choong.

"We were informed of her trip. In fact, this is her first camping trip. She should have been home yesterday. Nurul Azwani planned to take her mother to Kuantan to spend some time with the family during the school holidays," he said.

At least 23 people associated with the school, including seven teachers with their friends and families, were camping at Father's Organic Farm when a landslide occurred about 2am yesterday.

In spite of losing her daughter, Siti Esah remained calm when we met at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
