KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan Nasional's leadership for his appointment as the new higher education minister.

Khaled, who is also Umno vice-president, said helming the higher education ministry and ensuring the country's colleges and universities were prepared to face new changes would be a very challenging task.

The Kota Tinggi member of parliament also thanked his constituents for their support in the 15th General Election (GE15) and vowed to take the constituency to greater heights.

In GE15, Khaled won the seat with a majority of 25,410 votes, defeating Mohamad Ridhwan Rasman from Perikatan Nasional and Onn Jaafar from Pakatan Harapan.

The former Johor menteri besar previously served as the higher education minister between 2008 and 2013 in Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration.
