JOHOR BARU: The Johor Cultural and Sports Club (JCSC) will celebrate its centenary with an elaborate programme.

The highlight will be a grand dinner on Jan 7 next year.

JCSC plans to honour its past presidents, present plaques to veteran members and showcase cultural performances.

Its president C. Gunasegaran said the oldest club in Johor was formerly known as Johor Civil Service Club.

He said the club, established in 1920, changed its name to Johor Cultural and Sports Club in 1984 to reflect the cross-section of society, government and private sector.

Gunasegaran said the centenary celebrations were supposed to take place in 2020 but had to be called off because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the club remained committed to giving back to the community through annual charity events organised for the less privileged and elderly.

"Over the years, we have assisted several schools to develop their sports activities."

The club also hosts sports activities for schools and its members.

He called upon current and past members to attend the dinner and make it a memorable occasion.
